Chore charts that actually work for an 8 year old
Fewer jobs, picked together, in a place everyone can see.
Most chore charts fail for the same reasons. There are too many jobs, a parent picked all of them, and the chart lives somewhere nobody looks. Here is a simpler way.
Keep it to three jobs
More than three and nobody finishes any of them. For an 8 year old, good starter jobs are making their bed, setting or clearing the table, feeding a pet, or putting dirty clothes in the hamper.
Let them pick
Offer a few jobs and let your child choose. A job they picked feels like theirs. A job handed down feels like a punishment.
Make it easy to see and easy to check off
Put the chart where everyone walks past it. Make checking a job off take two seconds. If it is a hassle, it will not happen.
Say thank you out loud
Every time. And let “good enough” count. A slightly crooked bed is still a made bed.
Write down three jobs. Show your child the list and ask which one they would pick first.
One calm place for the whole week.
Famora is being built to keep chores, plans and pickups together, so nothing lives on a fridge nobody checks.
